Le opere del gruppo CaCO3 per natura si compiono nel binomio materia/luce in quanto l’una non può prescindere dall’altra, in un “concetto spaziale”, per riprendere alla lettera Lucio Fontana, che si definisce anche attraverso l’interazione tra i pieni e i vuoti. É l’idea del vuoto che riempie.
La luce impalpabile scivola e penetra nella materia, scomponendosi e ricomponendosi nella frammentazione musiva, dando la sensazione di una dimensione altra o profonda che porta la nostra percezione in uno stato contemplativo.

The works of the collective CaCO3 are by nature fulfilled in the combination of matter and light, as one cannot be separated from the other, in a 'spatial concept', to quote Lucio Fontana, that is also defined through the interaction between solids and voids. It is the idea of emptiness that fills.
The impalpable light slips and penetrates into the matter, breaking it down and reassembling itself in the mosaic fragmentation, giving the sensation of another or of a deeper dimension that brings our perception into a contemplative state.

CaCO3 è un gruppo artistico fondato nel 2006 da Âniko Ferreira da Silva (Ravenna, Italia, 1976), Giuseppe Donnaloia (Martina Franca, Italia, 1976) e Pavlos Mavromatidis (Kavàla, Grecia, 1979).
Formula chimica del carbonato di calcio, o calcare (la pietra), il nome CaCO3 si riferisce a una delle materie prime comunemente utilizzate per la creazione di manufatti musivi, rivelando esplicitamente il valore fondamentale che l'elemento materiale riveste nella ricerca del gruppo.
CaCO3 opera a Ravenna.
“La nostra ricerca indaga le relazioni tra materiali di diversa natura e le possibilità estetiche che si delineano attraverso l'alterazione degli aspetti fondamentali di un mezzo espressivo, riflettendo sulla materia anche le dinamiche intrinseche del gruppo stesso.”

CaCO3 is an artist collective founded in 2006 by Âniko Ferreira da Silva (Ravenna, Italy), Giuseppe Donnaloia (Martina Franca, Italy) and Pavlos Mavromatidis (Kavala, Greece). The group lives and works in Ravenna.
Chemical formula of calcium carbonate, or limestone (the stone), the name CaCO3 refers to one of the raw materials commonly used for the creation of mosaic artifacts, explicitly revealing the fundamental value that the material element fulfills in the group’s research.
CaCO3 works in Ravenna.
